There’s a lot of curiosity about who Scientologists follow, who or what they believe in. The main misconceptions come from simply not knowing and not talking to Scientologists and just asking them.
All Scientologists read and use the works of L. Ron Hubbard – he is NOT our god. When I first attended a Church event when I was maybe 9 years old, I did see a bunch of people stand up and clap at a picture of L. Ron Hubbard at the end of the event. I then asked my Dad “Is he their God?” and my Dad, who had joined Scientology laughed and he said no, why would I think that?
So I definitely understand where someone might come from, Scientologists respect L. Ron Hubbard, a lot. I now am one of the people like at this event for L. Ron Hubbard’s birthday which we celebrate (Just as I also celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day) to honor a man who did so much for Mankind. I’ve interviewed many people on the Don’t Do Nothing Podcast whose lives were literally saved by Mr. Hubbard – and I myself can say that my life is much much better because of Mr. Hubbard and if it wasn’t for him, I’d probably be addicted to various substances, not be a father, and have a life that I wouldn’t ever trade for.
So, the enthusiasm for LRH (as we often call him) is due to the immense help he’s provided for us, and not just to Scientologists, but to anyone who will accept help.

Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board Religious Technology Center
Before L. Ron Hubbard’s passing in 1986, he appointed Mr. David Miscavige to lead the most important part of all Scientology, the Religious Technology Center, the entity that actually owns and protects Scientology, as the holder of the trademark Scientology.
In my life I’ve only known of Mr. Miscavige as the leader of the religion today, and I’ve seen some really huge steps forward taken by the Church of Scientology in that time. The project of creating Ideal Churches of Scientology, giving a huge facelift to so many locations.
Here’s the before and after of the Church of Scientology of Miami for example. Before (120 Giralda Avenue, Coral Gables):

After 2220 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL 33133:

The project has made so much more space for new people and veterans alike to learn about the works of L. Ron Hubbard and find the tools that have helped millions of people.
Further, the recovery of the works of L. Ron Hubbard. This was a massive project that Mr. Miscavige led, the in-depth work that was done was showcased in the 2007 event sometimes called the Release of the Basics. From this moment onward Scientologists were able to really understand the scripture as it was presented unadulterated and pure. This is actually the time that I truly became a Scientologist when I started to read the books after this event, and the invite was extended to me by Mr. David Miscavige himself to read the books.

The current leader of the Church is Mr. David Miscavige and I trust him, as L. Ron Hubbard trusted him:
“Trust and friendship are things forged in fire and pounded out on the anvil of life. We have been through a lot together. I trust you as you trust me.”
—L. Ron Hubbard to David Miscavige
