| The stated Aims of Scientology, as declared by Founder L. Ron Hubbard, begin with “A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where Man is free to rise to greater heights, are the aims of Scientology.” Written in 1965, his vision for what the Church would be was very broad, and very broad it has become today. Having witnessed first-hand a lot of work from Scientologists in many different fields, I can say that all Scientologists want a world where things are better for each individual person. Scientologists believe that we are all interconnected, and we must help others in the society in order to do well, this is covered in the free online Scientology Course The Dynamics of Existence which doesn’t just include what Scientologists believe, but gives practical information to examine your life and make better decisions, whether or not you want to be a Scientologist. We believe that we all must survive better in order to make it in the long run. So, the responsibility must go to the entire civilization. In today’s world, a single person, with a massive bomb could destroy all life on Earth, these things cannot be ignored. In one of Hubbard’s books, Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought he states early in the book: “The mission of Scientology is not conquest—it is civilization. It is a war upon stupidity, the stupidity which leads us toward the Last War of All.” He is speaking of the deadly power of atomic bombs. There are possibilities that would end all life, not just existing, but make it so no life would be possible here on Earth. Core to a Scientologist’s beliefs is that he reaps what he sows, not just in this life, but in the next. Hubbard writes in The Parts of Man: “”It is obvious that what we create in our societies during this lifetime affects us during our next lifetime. This is quite different than the “belief ” or the “idea” that this occurs. In Scientology, we have very little to do with forcing people to make conclusions. An individual can experience these things for himself. And unless he can do so, no one expects him to accept them.” ..… “It is certain that an individual experiences the effect of the civilization, which he has had part in creating, in his next lifetime. In other words, the individual comes back. He has a responsibility for what goes on today since he will experience it tomorrow.” There are many things that not all Scientologists believe, but it has become true for me and have experienced myself that this life is not my first, and thus I will live again. This is a tremendous responsibility, and one that all Scientologists that I know believe, whether or not they have achieved the personal experience of recalling a time they have lived before or not. Having the profound conviction that this life is not the last, makes the goal of Scientology include a place in which you can come back to, not just for your children and grandchildren, but literally for yourself as well. This then brings the topic of the Bridge to Total Freedom, which is the the journey that every Scientologist is on to improve his awareness and freedom in life. Going on the Bridge enables a person to better achieve the Aims of Scientology, as we are rising to greater heights. If I look at my own life from when I was not yet on the Bridge, to now having travelled a good amount of it, I see my ability, happiness and impact in making the world a better place have increase tremendously. The focus of Scientology is to solve the problems of one individual, and if that can be repeated and multiplied many times, there will be enough changes in the society that we may just be able to continue this civilization and not die off like the Romans. To get a much more in-depth answer, I suggest to watch: “An Introduction to Scientology” in which Hubbard answers many questions from a reporter on the topic of Scientology, his last filmed interview. Here are the parting words of that interview, and the parting words for this article: Hitchman: “Mr. Hubbard I’d like to ask you a direct question now towards the end of this program: Why do you think Man is here on this planet? What’s his purpose? Why is he in a body?” Hubbard: “Well, he was put here and he was supposed to make his own way out of it.” Hitchman: “Who put him here”? Hubbard “Well, call it a Supreme Being or Higher Forces. And he actually, and I hold this in common with many, many sages, he was put here to work out his own salvation and we feel in Scientology we’ve made a very big stride in that direction.” |
