Text Version

[00:00:00] David: I burnt the house down.

[00:00:00] Brad: What? Oh, you’ve been shot?

[00:00:02] David: Well, in the world. I grew up, yeah. There is no law parties. Like Friday night, 3000 people would show up and then the drugs come in, and then it’s a fucking disaster. And I become the closest I’ve seen to like the Wolf of Wall Street character, complete insanity, no limits.

[00:00:16] David: I was fairly certain that if I didn’t change my lifestyle, I will not see 30. Yeah. Like this body will die. I’m sorry if that sounds crazy, but, and if my kid came up and told me that, I’m like, holy, I need to go redo every fucking course I’ve ever done. I go to church because I’m gonna get the next tool to make the next million next week.

[00:00:34] David: Mm-hmm. You know? Or I go to church because I want to become more able to give my kid a better, better future or to become better at building the relationship with my wife

[00:00:41] Aaron: guys. Today I have the honor of introducing David Lara, bore renowned Mexican blonde, white Mexican. Okay. If you’ve never seen one, now you have Okay.

[00:00:55] Aaron: This guy is co-founder with myself of Nexus Capital, which is [00:01:00] an amazing expanding, we just closed a, a deal, uh, what, two weeks ago? Three weeks ago? Yeah. Um, he has, uh, an amazing wife. His firstborn daughter, Giselle has just been born. So he is now a father. Uh, he is an inventor. Okay. He’s invented, uh, a product that went massively viral, went to millions, uh, in, in Mexico, and uh, I was the best man at his wedding.

[00:01:21] Aaron: So guys, David la

[00:01:25] Brad: and I won’t say David’s last name ’cause I always f it up in the way. It’s okay.

[00:01:28] David: You can always practice.

[00:01:29] Brad: Welcome bro. La

[00:01:31] David: It’s beautiful.

[00:01:31] Brad: That’s good. Yeah. Yeah. I just have to say it like a clown. Okay. Welcome bro.

[00:01:34] David: Thank you.

[00:01:35] Brad: And among other things, among everything else that Aaron said, you’re also a proud Scientologist.

[00:01:41] David: Yeah.

[00:01:42] Brad: And we wanna talk about life, but we also wanna talk about that obviously today.

[00:01:46] David: Beautiful.

[00:01:46] Brad: Because that’s the purpose of the Don’t Do Nothing podcast. Uh, but before we get into that, what is, what is your, pat, you guys were talking about this. What, pat, what did you patent? What did you invent?

[00:01:56] David: Um,

[00:01:56] Brad: I heard something about tortillas.

[00:01:57] Brad: It’s very Mexican.

[00:01:58] David: Yes, it’s very Mexican. So in Mexico, [00:02:00] almost every meal you’ll have tortillas with your meal, lunch and dinner.

[00:02:05] Brad: Yeah.

[00:02:05] David: It’s kind of like having bread, but it needs to be freshly made tortillas. And they need to be warm and warm tortillas will last a matter of minutes.

[00:02:14] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:02:14] David: So either you’re wealthy and you have maids who are running back and forth from the kitchen, from the stove to the table every 10, 15 minutes swapping the tortillas,

[00:02:22] Aaron: which is what

[00:02:23] David: David had doing.

[00:02:23] David: Yeah. That’s what

[00:02:24] Aaron: David,

[00:02:24] Brad: I was gonna say. That was based on, based on David’s hair. That’s right. That’s what he had.

[00:02:30] David: Or you don’t have the staff to help you. And it’s usually the, the woman of the house who’s getting up every 10 minutes

[00:02:36] Brad: Mm.

[00:02:37] David: Goes back, heats them up. You can’t heat them in the microwave, it’s on the fire.

[00:02:41] David: Mm-hmm. And then brings them every 10 minutes.

[00:02:44] Brad: Wow.

[00:02:45] David: So that’s the way. It goes.

[00:02:48] Brad: Yeah.

[00:02:49] David: So I invented a device that, um, keeps them warm. So once you heat them up, you put ’em in this device. It’s self heated.

[00:02:55] Brad: Mm.

[00:02:56] David: Uh, it’s obviously, uh, isolated, so it keeps [00:03:00] the heat in, but it also has a heat source inside

[00:03:02] Brad: Mm.

[00:03:02] David: That you activate and it’s reusable.

[00:03:04] Brad: Yeah.

[00:03:05] David: So you can use it unlimited times. And it doesn’t require batteries. No charging, no microwave, nothing. It’s a self-generating heat source that is unlimitedly reusable. We first samples probably came out in early two thousands. Yeah. I still have units that work.

[00:03:20] Brad: Oh, wow.

[00:03:21] David: Yeah.

[00:03:22] Brad: That’s crazy.

[00:03:22] David: I know.

[00:03:23] Brad: That’s amazing.

[00:03:24] David: And then we crossed a huge deal, closed a huge deal with a Walmart.

[00:03:27] Brad: Yeah.

[00:03:28] David: And we were in all their stores and they’d put us at this, like, you would walk into a Walmart and you’d see a huge display of this.

[00:03:33] Brad: Oh my God.

[00:03:34] David: And then, yeah, it was, it was fun.

[00:03:36] Brad: Dude. That’s awesome.

[00:03:37] David: We had like people in like, I don’t know what the word is in English, but um, the people that showed the product.

[00:03:42] David: In the stand,

[00:03:44] Brad: like, uh, like the people doing, like the samples or

[00:03:46] David: whatever? Yeah, like a demonstration of the product there

[00:03:48] Brad: models, but that’s what we call ’em mod now

[00:03:50] David: models.

[00:03:50] Brad: Sure.

[00:03:51] David: On every Walmart in the country. I don’t know how many thousands. Well, every Walmart had someone

[00:03:56] Brad: what?

[00:03:56] David: From us with a whole stand with all the tortillas, [00:04:00] the heating, all the stuff.

[00:04:01] David: And they would just like go like tortillas.

[00:04:04] Brad: Yeah. They would go like tortillas.

[00:04:05] Aaron: Is that And was that in also also Walmart, US or just Walmart,

[00:04:08] David: like Mexico? No, we, we, we talked about Walmart, us, and then we never got there.

[00:04:13] Brad: Mm-hmm. Because you met Aaron. You got too busy

[00:04:15] David: doing.

[00:04:15] Brad: He distracted

[00:04:16] David: me.

[00:04:16] Brad: Yeah,

[00:04:17] David: I know.

[00:04:17] Brad: Okay.

[00:04:17] Brad: So you’re, you’re from Mexico?

[00:04:20] David: Yeah.

[00:04:21] Brad: Yeah. Okay. So can, can you walk us through briefly, how did you get from there to here? Did you swim, run? No. Just kidding. No, just a joke. Just a joke. Just a joke.

[00:04:30] David: Because now you have, you have the, uh, border control, the wall. They’re rough. Those guys won’t, no mercy.

[00:04:35] Brad: Okay. But what’s your

[00:04:36] David: story?

[00:04:36] David: I’m gonna go runner.

[00:04:37] Brad: I, yeah, he’s thin. He’s thin and he’s fasting

[00:04:40] David: fast. Yeah.

[00:04:41] Brad: And fast and fasting.

[00:04:42] David: Yeah.

[00:04:42] Brad: Okay. So what’s, what’s a, can, can you give me, ’cause I, I know your business backstory, but I don’t really know your personal backstory that much.

[00:04:49] David: Yeah.

[00:04:50] Brad: And how does Scientology play into it?

[00:04:51] David: Sure. How PG 13 or X-rated are we doing this?

[00:04:55] Aaron: Uh, no, we have, we have bleeps and edits, so just do what you want and then if it’s a problem, we’ll cut it out.

[00:04:59] Brad: Just be

[00:04:59] David: you. Okay. It’ll [00:05:00] be censored.

[00:05:00] Brad: Yeah, that’s right.

[00:05:01] David: So all you’ll hear will be like, eh. Um, how does Scientology play into this? I was fortunate enough, I think I’d say, to have been born in a Scientology family.

[00:05:13] David: Meaning my parents were studying it by the time I was born 46 years ago. Um, I was stupid enough to around,

[00:05:24] Brad: hold on. Why did you just say 46? You’re 46?

[00:05:27] David: Yeah.

[00:05:31] Aaron: What’s our face? What’s our face? Better than either of us. It’s like a decade and a half older than me.

[00:05:37] David: I’ve applied more Scientology.

[00:05:38] Brad: Yeah, that’s right.

[00:05:39] David: Clearly,

[00:05:40] Brad: clearly

[00:05:40] David: Scientology is huge

[00:05:41] Aaron: shit. He’s up upon youth from the beginning of his

[00:05:42] Brad: life. Did we talk about this when you were on

[00:05:43] s

[00:05:44] David: does work,

[00:05:45] Brad: yes.

[00:05:45] Brad: Yeah, of course. Yeah. Apparently it makes you a vampire.

[00:05:49] David: Yeah.

[00:05:49] Brad: Geez. Yeah. Did we talk about this on my podcast?

[00:05:51] David: No.

[00:05:52] Brad: Oh my God. I didn’t know you were 46.

[00:05:54] David: Yeah.

[00:05:55] Brad: Sorry. Continue.

[00:05:57] David: So, okay. So [00:06:00] fortunate enough to have been born with ology parents.

[00:06:02] Brad: Yeah.

[00:06:03] David: Stupid enough to have still gone the wrong direction.

[00:06:07] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:06:07] David: Completely. Like it doesn’t get worse than what I’ve done. Um, around, you know how it all works. You start doing things that you shouldn’t be doing and then things start to spin outta control, and then you keep doing more things that you shouldn’t be doing, and it just keeps getting worse. He

[00:06:22] Aaron: loves to, he loves to get into fights.

[00:06:24] Aaron: He was in the top, like really like his, his, his nickname is a child. Was Gail, right?

[00:06:29] David: Yeah.

[00:06:29] Brad: What does that mean?

[00:06:30] Aaron: Gao Roo? Gadio is a rooster, like a rooster fight because he wants to prove that he’s the strongest.

[00:06:36] Brad: You have spurs on your ankles.

[00:06:38] David: Yeah.

[00:06:38] Brad: Yeah. You do. Was

[00:06:39] David: knives.

[00:06:40] Brad: Yeah. Um, Gail?

[00:06:43] David: Yeah. So I grew up in

[00:06:46] Brad: that was though you were constantly getting in fights.

[00:06:48] Brad: Sorry for interrupting.

[00:06:48] David: Yeah. I would do it just because I was bored and

[00:06:50] Brad: really

[00:06:51] David: I wasn’t bad at it, so

[00:06:52] Brad: Yeah.

[00:06:53] David: You know, it was good. It was kind of, yeah. I don’t know that, that’s how confused I was.

[00:06:58] Brad: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:06:58] David: Let’s just leave it [00:07:00] at that

[00:07:00] Brad: Makes

[00:07:00] David: sense. But I grew up in a very fortunate position economically and with incredible parents, incredibly supportive and, and that was amazing until that the teenage years started coming in.

[00:07:11] David: But just so you got an idea, I had an unlimited Amex when I was a kid.

[00:07:15] Brad: Mm-hmm. Wow.

[00:07:16] David: Uh, all of my friends were some of the, well very wealthy families down south.

[00:07:21] Brad: Yeah.

[00:07:22] David: So 14 years old, the 1516 of us going to South Beach from Mexico City and literally closing the VIP area of the biggest clubs in South Beach.

[00:07:32] David: And here you have 14 years old getting shit faced.

[00:07:34] Brad: Wow. How, how detrimental do you think that Unli, having the unlimited Amex as a kid was?

[00:07:41] David: I think what was detrimental Sure, yeah. Was my own behavior of doing all these things I shouldn’t be doing. And those things start to pile up and it’s almost like you become more addicted to doing all these things you shouldn’t be doing.

[00:07:55] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:07:55] David: Also, if you probably remember growing up doing stupid stuff was kind [00:08:00] of cool.

[00:08:00] Brad: Yeah.

[00:08:00] David: That’s the cool stuff. I

[00:08:01] Brad: definitely remember

[00:08:02] David: that. And whoever did the craziest, most retarded thing,

[00:08:05] Brad: they were the

[00:08:06] coolest.

[00:08:06] David: You’re the biggest stut.

[00:08:07] Brad: Yeah.

[00:08:07] David: So it all kind of like played hand in hand to me becoming the biggest on planet earth.

[00:08:15] David: Uh, yeah,

[00:08:15] Brad: yeah,

[00:08:16] David: yeah. And, you know, teenage years then. The game really becomes attracting attention, you know? Mm-hmm. Without trying to be too interesting. ’cause that’s like, especially at, at those circles, uh, socially and economically, it plays very badly if you trying, like you can’t try

[00:08:34] Brad: hard.

[00:08:35] David: Yeah. If you’re like trying to get attention or like showing off.

[00:08:38] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:08:39] David: Forget it. That’s like the worst. So you’d have to get all this attention without showing anything off or without even speaking about yourself or boasting or none of that. Yeah. So it’s a whole game.

[00:08:48] Brad: Yeah.

[00:08:49] David: But anyway, it’s part of the whole scene that I grew up in, and the older I got, the more stupidity I accumulated.

[00:08:59] David: Like, [00:09:00] and like there was, for example, I had someone at the home that run the household who, who dealt with all the stupidity. I, I did. Like, I would go out with my rifle and I’d shoot. This

[00:09:12] Brad: is a dedicated individual just to deal with?

[00:09:14] David: No, no. They, oh,

[00:09:15] Brad: okay.

[00:09:15] David: They, they dealt with the staff at the home.

[00:09:17] Brad: Oh, I got

[00:09:17] David: it.

[00:09:18] David: But as kind of like the head of the household. She also had to deal with all my stupidity.

[00:09:22] Brad: Got it. Got it.

[00:09:22] David: That meant dollars spent on, let’s change all the lampposts in the street again. ’cause David just went out on an afternoon, on a Tuesday at 3:00 PM with a rifle and shot all of them.

[00:09:32] Brad: Wow.

[00:09:33] Aaron: Oh wow.

[00:09:34] David: At age 14.

[00:09:36] Brad: Wow.

[00:09:36] David: Uh, I burn the house down.

[00:09:39] Brad: What?

[00:09:39] David: And it’s not just any house like the houses where we grew up. They’re nice houses.

[00:09:44] Brad: Wow.

[00:09:45] David: I the, now, I’m not gonna tell you the whole story, but I created a bomb ’cause I saw it in a movie. I was a kid. So I sent one of the drivers to buy gunpowder. He’s like, that’s illegal.

[00:09:54] David: He’s like, okay, so go get the gunpowder.

[00:09:57] Brad: Hey. He’s like illegal.

[00:09:58] David: So he bought the gun powder. [00:10:00] We started inventing bombs. That led to a house down the street, burning down. And the fire fire was, wasn’t in your house though? Somebody else’s

[00:10:09] Brad: house. Okay, that’s

[00:10:10] David: good. Our house was brand new and my dad built me this room about this size with all the tools you can think of.

[00:10:16] David: ’cause I love building stuff. All kinds of stuff from like remote control boats, cars, whatever. Bombs.

[00:10:22] Brad: Bombs.

[00:10:23] David: And I burned that place down when it was like the grand opening of the house.

[00:10:28] Brad: Oh my God.

[00:10:29] David: So,

[00:10:31] Brad: so they just finished building a house. Boom. David blows it up.

[00:10:33] David: Yeah. There’s guests in the house

[00:10:36] Brad: while you’re blowing it up.

[00:10:37] Brad: Yeah. Wow.

[00:10:38] David: But that’s not the story of the house that got burnt down. There was a big house that got burnt down. What? With my bombs.

[00:10:45] Aaron: Okay. At that moment were you trying to burn down the house?

[00:10:47] David: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It’s just like the, my level of responsibility was so low.

[00:10:52] Brad: Yeah.

[00:10:53] David: And I felt so about everything.

[00:10:54] Brad: Yeah.

[00:10:55] David: That I just didn’t care and things went wrong and well, that’s, it went [00:11:00] wrong. The fuck if I care?

[00:11:01] Brad: Yeah.

[00:11:03] David: Uh, and it really just didn’t, wouldn’t fade me.

[00:11:06] Brad: Yeah.

[00:11:06] David: Or the fact that I just shut down all the lampposts again, that I’m beautiful. They need to be replaced. I don’t know. Or some maid from some other house comes.

[00:11:13] David: It’s like, Hey, he shot the big window again. We need, we just changed it. Here’s the invoice. You know?

[00:11:19] Brad: Yeah.

[00:11:19] David: Or I have a hole here from, ’cause I was shocked by my neighbor, also, closest friend at the time. Next day I shot him to get even, you know? So we went to the hospital. You shot with an actual car two days in a row.

[00:11:31] Brad: He shot you and then you

[00:11:32] David: shot him. Yes. And that and, but what

[00:11:34] Aaron: kind? Hold on. What kind of bullets?

[00:11:35] David: Not a 22.

[00:11:37] Aaron: What? Like,

[00:11:38] Brad: oh, wow, bro, you’ve been shot.

[00:11:40] David: Yeah.

[00:11:40] Brad: That should have been in the intro, but I didn’t

[00:11:42] David: know

[00:11:42] Brad: he’s been shot. He shot a man.

[00:11:45] David: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:11:46] Brad: Wow.

[00:11:47] David: Anyway,

[00:11:47] Brad: but you’re a juvenile, so it doesn’t count.

[00:11:49] David: Yeah, it doesn’t matter.

[00:11:50] Brad: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Especially in world. I mean, that’s actually how the law works.

[00:11:52] David: Well

[00:11:52] Brad: no, that’s how the law works. If you’re a kid and you shoot somebody, it’s like, well, he is a kid.

[00:11:57] David: Well in the world I grew up.

[00:11:58] Brad: Yeah.

[00:11:58] David: There is no law.

[00:11:59] Brad: [00:12:00] Right?

[00:12:00] David: Like there is no none.

[00:12:02] Brad: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:12:02] David: None.

[00:12:03] Brad: Yeah.

[00:12:03] David: None.

[00:12:04] Aaron: That’s, it’s okay. So in the shooting didn, the police didn’t come or nothing?

[00:12:08] David: No, it’s just playing. It’s like right now if I shot you and we just laughed and you cried a little bit ’cause you’re like, what the hell? You just shot me. But then we’re laughing and then we go to the hospital and they get the, it’s done.

[00:12:17] Brad: And your internal organs are fine.

[00:12:18] David: Yeah. Like

[00:12:19] Brad: did the bullet exit or just, no,

[00:12:21] David: it’s tiny’s tiny thing.

[00:12:22] Brad: Yes. Uh, well, I’ve never been shot with a 22. I don’t know the, the intimate details

[00:12:27] David: of this. I’d say I’d shoot you, but I wouldn’t

[00:12:29] Brad: Thank you.

[00:12:29] David: I would’ve done it back then. Appreciate

[00:12:30] Brad: that

[00:12:31] David: for shits and giggles.

[00:12:32] Brad: Appreciate that.

[00:12:32] David: Yeah. So anyway, that was the type of life. Then we start growing up partying, girls alcohol.

[00:12:38] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:12:38] David: That gets outta control. So I grew up in Scientology as a, at a very young age. I learned all these concept concepts from my parents. You know how the mind works, how you can deal with people, how you can communicate better, all the components of communication, all these incredible tools.

[00:12:56] David: I don’t know. This is gonna sound a little bit pretentious, but it made [00:13:00] me a little bit of a, I have an advantage of everyone around me. ’cause no one has these tools. No one knows how understanding works, especially when you’re like 12 years old. Mm-hmm. But no one outside of Santo have ever met that really have the components of understanding or how do you use that to communicate with someone?

[00:13:14] David: Or even worse, how do you use ’em to control someone?

[00:13:17] Brad: Yeah.

[00:13:18] David: You know, or like how do you like, use it to take advantage of someone. Yeah. That was the evil me back then.

[00:13:23] Brad: Yeah.

[00:13:24] David: So it, it really made it incredibly, you know, easier to get the girls or to be the guy at the top of the attention scene without being that re

[00:13:35] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:13:36] David: You know, obnoxious guy.

[00:13:38] Brad: You’re able to navigate that game of get attention without being trying.

[00:13:41] David: But even if I go a little bit further back, I think it gave me a lot of stability as an individual. ’cause I knew things like I’ve been around for a long time, even though I’m 10 years old. I understand the mind, I know these, whatever.

[00:13:55] David: I thought, this is not me. All these basic things that you, we’ve learned in Scientology that [00:14:00] it’s become part of our everyday lifestyle.

[00:14:03] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:03] David: Well it was for me when I was a little kid.

[00:14:05] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:14:05] David: So it was incredibly stable. So that was incredible.

[00:14:08] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:09] David: You know, whatever would happen, I, I, it didn’t fade me.

[00:14:12] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:12] David: You know, people would have drama in their lives. I’m like, why? And I realized at a very young age that it all came from me, thanks to all these Scientology tools I learned as a kid from my parents.

[00:14:22] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:23] David: You know, so if everything goes wrong, it’s from me. If, if I think I can’t do it, then I probably won’t be able to do it.

[00:14:29] David: So I’m like, why the fuck would I think I can’t do it, so let’s just do it.

[00:14:34] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:14:34] David: And it gave me an incredible platform. Then it all went to shit when, fast forward to my crazier days.

[00:14:41] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:42] David: Then the girls, then the alcohol, then it really goes to. Then the drugs come in and then it’s a fucking disaster.

[00:14:48] Brad: Yeah.

[00:14:49] David: And I become the closest I’ve seen to like the Wolf of Wall Street character.

[00:14:54] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:14:55] David: Like complete insanity, no limits, [00:15:00] nothing happens. That’s when the

[00:15:00] Aaron: black Amex is bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. If that’s what you’re doing with the black

[00:15:04] David: Amex, it’s, it’s, it’s, it gets crazy.

[00:15:07] Brad: Yeah.

[00:15:07] David: It gets really crazy. Uh,

[00:15:10] Brad: what, what brought you back?

[00:15:13] Brad: Like, what got you out of that?

[00:15:14] David: So, I always knew that lifestyle was out ethics, let’s say. Mm-hmm. Or bad. But I’m like, fuck it. I had my reasons. Right. Yeah. Which now we know it’s all bullshit.

[00:15:30] Brad: Yeah, yeah.

[00:15:30] David: But, but I know it was bad.

[00:15:33] Brad: Yeah.

[00:15:34] David: So, and I, yeah. So I reach a point where now I’ve woken up. I dunno that I want this broadly known, but fucking we’re doing this.

[00:15:45] David: So

[00:15:45] Brad: yeah.

[00:15:46] David: Now I’m waking up with girls that I, I don’t know who the fuck they are.

[00:15:50] Brad: Yeah.

[00:15:51] David: I don’t know. So that’s kind of weird and how we got there.

[00:15:55] Brad: Yeah.

[00:15:57] David: Where the fuck are we?

[00:15:59] Brad: Yeah. [00:16:00]

[00:16:00] David: So that was starting to happen and it almost became funny for everybody, right? ’cause then I would have to, like, Aaron, where did we go last night?

[00:16:10] David: Dude, Brian, what did we do?

[00:16:11] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:16:11] David: Oh, you left at four? Who stayed with me after that?

[00:16:14] Brad: Mm.

[00:16:15] David: Let me call Aaron. You were there after four. So the,

[00:16:17] Aaron: and then you’re laughing like, aha. You know David doesn’t know.

[00:16:21] David: Yeah. Yeah. And it was funny, right? Oh, you don’t remember again? Ha ha

[00:16:25] Brad: ha ha ha. Yeah.

[00:16:27] David: But at some point I’m like, this is crazy.

[00:16:29] David: Yeah. So I reached a point around 26 where. I was fairly certain that if I didn’t change my lifestyle, I will not see 30. Yeah. Like this body will die.

[00:16:40] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:16:40] David: Like it was party five times a week.

[00:16:42] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:16:43] David: Maybe six, but party. Party.

[00:16:45] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:16:45] David: Not just like, oh yeah, I had two beers and I stayed up until one 30. No.

[00:16:50] David: Maybe like no sleep sometimes.

[00:16:52] Brad: Yeah.

[00:16:53] David: So at that point I’m like, okay, I need to like redeem myself. Mm-hmm. Like, this is not gonna work. I [00:17:00] will die and I don’t necessarily wanna die. So I’m like, okay. This group of friends is not gonna work. Yeah. They’re my brothers, a lot of them. And they’re still my brothers today.

[00:17:09] David: And a lot of them I called. Not literally

[00:17:10] Aaron: your brothers, like mano like, but

[00:17:12] yeah,

[00:17:13] David: like both as a

[00:17:14] Aaron: friends sisters, but no

[00:17:14] Brad: brother. Does armo mean like, like like figurative brother?

[00:17:19] David: Both.

[00:17:19] Aaron: Both. Both. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Similar. Same as brother. Similar. Similar, but just. Just for the record siblings. He has three sisters.

[00:17:26] Aaron: He’s the oldest,

[00:17:27] David: correct.

[00:17:27] Brad: Oh, I got it.

[00:17:28] David: I only have three sisters.

[00:17:29] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:17:30] David: But anyway, my point was these guys are very close friends. If I needed something today, they would do it without hesitation, whatever it was.

[00:17:36] Brad: Yeah, yeah.

[00:17:37] David: But at the time I’m like, this is not gonna work. And a lot of them were much senior than me, or much senior than what I had become this completely insane guy.

[00:17:47] David: ’cause that was the cool thing. So I took the trophy of the most insane.

[00:17:50] Brad: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

[00:17:52] David: Except for the, another friend. The one guy who jumped at the wedding was wedding video, which you watch one day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He’s incredible. He’s a [00:18:00] gem. And he’s doing the same things we were doing when we were 15. He’s a gem.

[00:18:04] David: Like he’s crazy.

[00:18:05] Brad: Yeah.

[00:18:06] David: Uh, so second to him, I was the craziest.

[00:18:08] Brad: Mm.

[00:18:10] David: So my friends were a lot more, not all of them as crazy as me. They’re incredible people. They’re doing amazing. They’re incredibly successful. Uh, but at that point I’m like, this, I have to stop. I can’t like party every day. Drugs, alcohol. I would drink a bottle of whiskey just to get the knife started.

[00:18:27] Brad: Wow.

[00:18:28] David: Plus smoking weed all day and all night.

[00:18:30] Brad: Yeah.

[00:18:30] David: Plus then shots. Correct. Plus then maybe more whiskey plus then someone more shots. Yeah. And now it’s 7:00 AM

[00:18:36] Brad: Yeah.

[00:18:37] David: God knows how much I’ve drank.

[00:18:38] Brad: You know what I just realized as you were saying that is I was getting, I was getting the idea of like leaving.

[00:18:43] Brad: ’cause I’ve, I’ve had that a similar experience in my life where at a certain point, actually it was funny is when I actually walked into a church of Scientology is I started realizing, I was like, oh, the people that I’m spending time with, like in my extracurricular time are in no way aligned with what I want to do.

[00:18:59] Brad: Like, this is [00:19:00] not, but the thing, the thing that you actually just made me realize is that it wasn’t about like the change of environment, the change of the people that surround you. That’s not because they’re doing something bad to you. Not at all. That’s because you can’t restrain yourself in that environment.

[00:19:14] David: Correct.

[00:19:15] Brad: The best way to get yourself to actually just like actually stop the

[00:19:19] David: shit. It’s the easy solution at the time

[00:19:20] Brad: is to remove yourself from the environment. Yeah. Correct. For you, for you. Not because of them.

[00:19:25] David: Absolutely. Wow. It’s all self.

[00:19:26] Brad: Yeah.

[00:19:27] David: 100% I think. Of course. 100%.

[00:19:29] Brad: Yeah.

[00:19:29] Aaron: He, it’s the way I have it.

[00:19:31] Aaron: So I remember one time I wasn’t in high school.

[00:19:33] Brad: Yeah.

[00:19:33] Aaron: And I looked around at the table, right. And it was, I don’t know, eight people. And I realized all of them were on some sort of drug and I hadn’t yet. And I was about to like

[00:19:45] David: a medication. Mm-hmm.

[00:19:46] Aaron: No, mostly like pot.

[00:19:48] David: Oh,

[00:19:48] Aaron: coke,

[00:19:49] David: recreation, whatever. Yeah.

[00:19:51] Aaron: And I realized, I’m like, I’m the last one standing here, and if I stay here, I, I won’t be there.

[00:19:56] Aaron: I’ll be next. Like, I, I’ll be in next. But, but it was in the plans. It was [00:20:00] because it is just, the group goes in a direction. That’s

[00:20:03] Brad: right.

[00:20:03] Aaron: You, I mean, of course in a way you could blame one person, you could blame two, you could blame whoever you wanna blame. But the point is the group is heading in a direction.

[00:20:09] Aaron: If you’re in that group.

[00:20:10] Brad: Yeah.

[00:20:10] Aaron: You tend to go in that direction. That’s, that’s why how I see it a

[00:20:13] Brad: hundred

[00:20:13] Aaron: percent. So is it. Out of those other whatever, six, seven people who’s to blame? You don’t need to blame any of them, but that’s what the group is.

[00:20:21] David: Yeah. You could

[00:20:21] Aaron: put it

[00:20:21] David: that way. That’s And it’s part of the game Yeah.

[00:20:23] David: That you’re playing all together at that time.

[00:20:25] Brad: Yeah. For some reason I had had the concept, I don’t even know why I, I thought this, but I, like, it just occurred to me as you were describing this, it’s like, oh yeah. It were, remove yourself from a group because you, it’s, you need to take responsibility for what you do when you’re in that group mm-hmm.

[00:20:38] Brad: That you can’t restrain yourself from, you know what I mean? Yep. It’s not like they’re bad or they’re, you know, whatever. Like they’re, they’re doing what they’re doing. It’s not even a state. Well,

[00:20:47] David: yeah.

[00:20:47] Aaron: Good,

[00:20:48] David: good.

[00:20:48] Brad: So continue. Sorry. Alright. There’s always one time in episode where I’m like, oh my God. I just realized

[00:20:53] David: That’s awesome.

[00:20:54] Brad: This is, this is just for Brad’s learning. It’s like

[00:20:56] David: good. I love it. So it gets crazy. [00:21:00] Uh, we start throwing parties like we’re the talk of the town. Mm-hmm. And Mexico City’s a big town. Mm-hmm. But the group that I grew up in is very small, like, but parties like Friday. 3000 people would show up inside the party and another 5,000 outside trying to get in.

[00:21:16] Brad: Wow.

[00:21:18] David: Big ar arteries to get into like the Beverly Hills of Mexico City would be blocked because of our people waiting for the valet parking. And it, you know, like people would make two, take two hours to get through the blockade.

[00:21:31] Brad: Mm.

[00:21:32] David: That are guests are causing it made the evening news like prime time, like

[00:21:37] Brad: Yeah.

[00:21:38] David: That kind of party. Wow. Crazy.

[00:21:40] Brad: Yeah.

[00:21:40] David: Lifestyle. So I’m like, if this keeps going, I won’t see 30, so I gotta stop.

[00:21:45] Brad: Yeah.

[00:21:47] David: So I didn’t know better than anything, so I’m like, okay, no more drugs, no more alcohol, no more partying unless it’s your birthday. Then of of course I’ll go and I’m not gonna drink or stay until 7:00 AM and see who I get.

[00:21:57] David: Yeah. Like that’s done.

[00:21:58] Brad: Yeah.

[00:21:59] David: And [00:22:00] I stopped completely.

[00:22:01] Brad: Yeah.

[00:22:02] David: Within days. Uh, I told my parents a little bit and it’s like, well, why don’t you go to the Church of Scientology and, uh. You know, they’re set up to help you with whatever it is. So I went and I did what I had to do and, you know, got my, myself cleaned up.

[00:22:20] David: There was the, the, the purification rundown and that gets all the toxins out of the body. And we had a, a friend that had a big, uh, vitamin manufacturing company and he has these different vitamins and supplements and one is called the drug bomb and all these things that he was helping me kind of like supplement my body.

[00:22:38] David: So it was chill.

[00:22:39] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:22:40] David: And, um, stop

[00:22:41] Aaron: withdrawals.

[00:22:42] Brad: Did you go really?

[00:22:42] Aaron: No.

[00:22:43] Brad: Did you go through withdrawals?

[00:22:44] David: No,

[00:22:44] Brad: not really.

[00:22:45] David: No.

[00:22:45] Brad: Wow.

[00:22:46] David: Yeah. Funny enough, I don’t know.

[00:22:49] Brad: Yeah, that’s cra Yeah. Okay.

[00:22:52] David: Okay.

[00:22:52] Brad: Yeah.

[00:22:53] David: Yeah. Which is crazy ’cause I would, that is crazy. I would drink at least one liter Yeah. Of whiskey [00:23:00] every night, at least four nights a week.

[00:23:02] David: But that’s not even the party that’s, that’s just like.

[00:23:05] Brad: Yeah. Appetite

[00:23:05] David: a little Yes. Like that.

[00:23:07] Brad: Maybe That’s actually crazy that you didn’t go through withdrawals.

[00:23:09] David: 40% of the alcohol I consumed that night. Yeah. And a lot of it would be shots of tequila mezcal. Yeah. So now you’re doing whiskey and mezcal.

[00:23:15] Brad: Yeah.

[00:23:15] David: And I would smoke 10 joints a day, like 10 joints.

[00:23:20] Brad: Do you think that the, the drug bomb that he helped you with, do you think that prevented the withdrawals

[00:23:25] David: maybe from you? Were

[00:23:26] Brad: you

[00:23:26] David: already It’s, it’s, yeah, it’s possible. Yeah. You know, like, I don’t know. I don’t know.

[00:23:31] Brad: And so what, when you did your purification rundown?

[00:23:35] David: Well, so first I had to like, kind of like take responsibility for all my fuck ups before the, the, the Scientology organizations is not gonna be like, oh yeah, you are a psycho. Come in welcome.

[00:23:46] Brad: True, true.

[00:23:47] David: So, you know, you do a little bit of, of work with, with someone that helps you kind of like take some responsibility and start straightening all this mess out.

[00:23:55] Brad: Yeah.

[00:23:56] David: So I did a little bit of work on that, but it was very fast. Maybe a couple of [00:24:00] weeks.

[00:24:00] Brad: Yeah.

[00:24:01] David: And then when things were. Good enough, and I was good enough and stable enough, and they said, okay, good. Well let’s go do the, uh, purification run, which I’d done. Funny enough, when I was 10 at my home, they had sent the person that delivers it to my house, and I did it as a kid.

[00:24:15] David: Oh. And my old sauna at home.

[00:24:16] Brad: Yeah.

[00:24:17] David: Ah. But I mean, how many toxins did I have at 10 years old? You know, none, never Medication, never ols, nothing.

[00:24:25] Brad: And in the interim,

[00:24:25] David: one or two, and then I went one or two, and then I ate all the toxins in the coming decade and a half. So that’s really where it all changed.

[00:24:34] David: Yeah. You know, where I realized that I went to get some help to the ology organization and they provided it and

[00:24:40] Brad: yeah.

[00:24:41] David: Everything changed. Lost 180 degrees. Yeah. Immediately.

[00:24:44] Brad: Yeah.

[00:24:45] David: Immediately.

[00:24:46] Aaron: Now I have a, I guess a question on, on that path, because

[00:24:52] Aaron: we’re all Scientologists and parents.

[00:24:56] David: Mm-hmm.

[00:24:56] Aaron: Right? Okay. Yeah. Congratulations, David.

[00:24:59] David: Thank [00:25:00] you.

[00:25:01] Aaron: Um. Like if my child came on a podcast and talked about themselves growing up in Scientology, and that’s the story I’ll have considered myself like, like a pretty bad parent or like how, how, how, how I got there.

[00:25:16] Aaron: I

[00:25:16] Brad: would, I

[00:25:16] Aaron: would, I’m just, I just, I, I don’t know of

[00:25:18] Brad: respect. Respect.

[00:25:19] Aaron: I’m just like,

[00:25:19] Brad: yeah. So

[00:25:21] Aaron: I’m, I’m kind of like wondering from your perspective, did you, is there some, like, did you have to go through all that to kind of then find yourself or could there have, like, is there some information you were missing or, or like what do you think could have been different?

[00:25:41] Aaron: If I don’t know you or your own parent, would you have done everything the same?

[00:25:46] David: Well, they’re incredible parents, but you have a very valid point. I dunno that I could ask for better parents, but when you put it like that, I’m like, fuck. But I still haven’t heard that and I think you are right. If my kid came up and [00:26:00] told me that, I’m like, holy, I need to go redo every fucking course I’ve ever done from the ground up and like, really have someone clear every word with me, make sure I get it.

[00:26:12] David: So I, but they were incredible parents. I think there was a turning point for like growing in that environment, maybe a little bit too loosely, which I’ve seen with your kids. You don’t have loosely, you’re not tight, you’re incredible. But back then, perhaps, you know, Scientology today it’s been established so standardly.

[00:26:31] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:26:32] David: And back then it wasn’t, uh, like I’ve lived through a little bit of that. ’cause when I came in, it was not what it is today. When you walked into your first

[00:26:39] Brad: Yeah.

[00:26:39] David: Uh, church of Scientology, you told me that it was an ideal building with the ideal everything.

[00:26:44] Brad: Yeah.

[00:26:44] David: Back then it wasn’t like that.

[00:26:46] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:26:47] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:26:47] David: So when my parents did it, God the fuck knows what it was. Mm-hmm. It had some of it and then it, it had some others, whatever. I’m not making excuses for them. All I’m saying is. Yes. Like there was, uh, [00:27:00] a lack of confront on both parts, theirs and mine, and a lack of responsibility on both ends. And, um, but ultimately who’s really cause about all of that is me.

[00:27:10] David: It’s not them.

[00:27:11] Aaron: Mm-hmm.

[00:27:12] David: You know, not at all. It’s 100% me. And something did happen on my life in the late nineties that was big enough and bad enough that I used that as the reason to like, okay, so now I’m really not gonna do Scientology. And that’s when the Wolf of Wall Street was really born.

[00:27:33] Brad: Okay.

[00:27:33] David: Up to that

[00:27:34] Brad: point.

[00:27:34] Brad: Can I ask, can I ask what happened?

[00:27:36] David: I’d rather you don’t.

[00:27:37] Brad: That’s fine. Okay,

[00:27:38] David: fine.

[00:27:39] Brad: That’s fine.

[00:27:39] David: A very unex not, yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s

[00:27:42] Brad: fine. Something bad. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:27:43] David: Yeah. Very bad.

[00:27:44] Brad: Fine.

[00:27:45] David: But I went from like a wild kid with a lot of resources, you know who Yeah. You know, I do things that maybe others wouldn’t, but.

[00:27:55] David: Not just because I could. Yeah. And it was fun. Yeah. And I did it to entertain myself ’cause mm-hmm. [00:28:00] If I wasn’t doing something all the time, I was bored. So I did every extreme sport. But on top of that, it’s like, hey, when you shoot things, they explode. That’s kind of fun too, you know? But never to a complete insanity point, like after that breaking point of the late nineties mm.

[00:28:16] David: When I became that person.

[00:28:19] Brad: Yeah.

[00:28:19] David: Again, I could blame it on that incident.

[00:28:22] Brad: Yeah.

[00:28:23] David: It’s not the incident, it’s me.

[00:28:25] Brad: Yeah.

[00:28:26] David: Now we know

[00:28:27] Aaron: the justification.

[00:28:28] David: Correct. Saying I’m not Oh. Because of that now, now I’m not gonna do Scientology, and now because I’m not doing Scientology, I can be completely insane.

[00:28:35] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:28:36] David: And win the game.

[00:28:37] Brad: Mm-hmm. Win the get what game?

[00:28:40] David: What game

[00:28:40] Brad: are we trying to

[00:28:41] David: Yeah. Win

[00:28:41] Brad: the game would be the craziest.

[00:28:42] David: The craziest. We’ll do the wildest things with the craziest stories, you know? Yeah. Cause the biggest stories of waking up with someone that you don’t know who she is. Mm-hmm. That seemed to be like a good story for everyone to listen to.

[00:28:52] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:28:53] David: But at some point I started getting worried.

[00:28:56] Brad: Yeah.

[00:28:56] David: Um, so anyway, that’s kind of where it changed.

[00:28:59] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:28:59] David: [00:29:00] And I really became crazy.

[00:29:02] Brad: Wow.

[00:29:03] David: Yeah.

[00:29:03] Brad: Unreal. That

[00:29:04] David: makes sense. And then when I stopped, and then I did the purification rundown. Yeah. And then literally, not only 180 degree change, but my life really took off.

[00:29:13] Brad: Yeah.

[00:29:13] David: You know? ’cause before that I was a kid.

[00:29:15] Brad: Yeah.

[00:29:16] David: Late nineties, I might’ve been late teens.

[00:29:19] Brad: Yeah.

[00:29:20] David: Right. And then I become completely psycho loony.

[00:29:24] Brad: Yeah.

[00:29:25] David: So I hadn’t really done much adult life until that moment.

[00:29:30] Brad: Yeah.

[00:29:30] David: Yeah. And that’s when really things took off.

[00:29:33] Brad: And then after that, what, what happened? Like what was the, what was the, the take off like, and how, how do you get from there to where you’re on now where.

[00:29:41] Brad: You’re basically like running a fund. Super successful closing. I mean, I feel like I’m hear you guys talking about a new deal every freaking other week.

[00:29:49] David: We have another one

[00:29:50] Brad: coming up

[00:29:51] David: one hour.

[00:29:52] Brad: Great. Yeah. I literally overheard as I was walking and like, we have blah blah. So what, like, it seems like a pretty big, [00:30:00] you’re, you’re partnering up with this guy, right?

[00:30:01] David: Yeah.

[00:30:02] Brad: So talk me through that. Like what does that look like?

[00:30:07] David: Um, well, as I mentioned earlier, that earlier beginnings for me with all that Scientology tools or data that I could use

[00:30:14] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:30:15] David: Uh, took me to a point where I was in my early teens and I was making money.

[00:30:20] Brad: Yeah.

[00:30:21] David: And I didn’t have to make money.

[00:30:22] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:30:23] David: But I had realized like, Hey, I all need money, so why don’t I just start now?

[00:30:27] Brad: Yeah.

[00:30:27] David: And I have businesses that made actual money. I even bought a pet store. I was, I think 14 or 15 with my own dime. Wow. And I was a business and I would go operate and I’d drive. Across town, which in Mexico is a problem ’cause it’s a big town.

[00:30:41] Brad: Yeah.

[00:30:41] David: Mexico City. And, um, so anyway, I guess I, I got all that competence and, and ability to get done from my earlier days. And all that tools led me to like, have my own thoughts and ideas and very firm established that hey, if I decide to do something, I can do something.

[00:30:59] Brad: Mm-hmm. [00:31:00]

[00:31:01] David: So fast forward to your question is after the insanity

[00:31:04] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:31:05] David: It all goes well. So then, you know, I start meeting more and more people inside like you probably did when you first went into the Tampa.

[00:31:14] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:14] David: Right.

[00:31:15] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:15] David: Uh, church of Scientology and I start meeting all these Scientologists.

[00:31:19] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:19] David: And I started meeting the staff that worked there.

[00:31:22] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:31:23] David: And I’m like, wow, this is crazy.

[00:31:24] David: People like, they’re dedicating their life to this.

[00:31:27] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:27] David: They’re not trying to make their next million.

[00:31:29] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:29] David: They don’t give a shit about the next million. They get up a shit about you. How are you doing? How was your day? What’s your why? Really? Yeah. Hey, let help you with that. Yeah. That’s all they care about.

[00:31:37] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:39] David: And that was incredible. Incredibly appealing to me.

[00:31:43] Brad: Yeah.

[00:31:43] David: I’ve always wanted to help. I always helped. Yes. I would burn houses and create destructions and whatnot, but

[00:31:49] Aaron: it was to make somebody laugh,

[00:31:51] David: it was to help. It was to make somebody laugh. It’s not a joke. It was all for a laugh.

[00:31:55] Aaron: Yeah.

[00:31:55] David: Yeah. And a good time and a good story to tell tomorrow.

[00:31:58] Aaron: Yeah.

[00:31:59] David: [00:32:00] Uh, and I have so many, and they were great stories, but they were very incredibly stupid, stupid

[00:32:05] Brad: things. I could just imagine, like, let me explain how I helped you by burning down your house

[00:32:07] David: Yes.

[00:32:08] Brad: And exploding a homemade bomb in your basement.

[00:32:10] David: Yes.

[00:32:10] Brad: Listen,

[00:32:12] David: so this

[00:32:13] Brad: was, I actually do get it though. It makes total sense.

[00:32:14] David: Yeah. Yeah. Good. I’m glad you did

[00:32:16] Brad: that. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:32:17] David: Uh, so seeing that level of help, I was just like blown away and I wanted to do that.

[00:32:24] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:32:25] David: Whether I wanted to get even with the score or the game or whatever.

[00:32:29] Brad: Yeah.

[00:32:29] David: But I’ve always had the purpose to help, and I’ve always helped to the degree that I’ve could.

[00:32:33] David: Despite the insanity. Yeah. If it was ever a friend in need, I would be the first one there.

[00:32:38] Brad: Yeah.

[00:32:38] David: Someone’s gonna get beat up. There’s 10 guys coming. I’d be the first day to show up and it’s us two. You know, like whatever was needed. Someone passed away one time.

[00:32:47] Brad: Yeah.

[00:32:47] David: I was there every day for literally like, I think maybe like 20 days.

[00:32:51] Brad: Yeah.

[00:32:52] David: Every day for 10, eight hours a day. ’cause it destroyed the family, a kid.

[00:32:57] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:32:59] David: [00:33:00] So, so this was seeing that I was like, whoa. And with tools that actually work.

[00:33:05] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:33:05] David: Because one thing is the advice I can give you and it, it can work on you and it doesn’t work on Aaron.

[00:33:09] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:33:11] David: But discovering

[00:33:12] Brad: you take advice from anybody.

[00:33:13] David: Ah,

[00:33:14] Brad: just kidding. I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding.

[00:33:16] David: So finding it would be the

[00:33:17] Brad: reverse. It would work on him and I wouldn’t listen. That’s the reality of the situation.

[00:33:22] David: Uh, so finding all these tools that do work on you, on me, on Aaron or anybody?

[00:33:27] Brad: Yeah.

[00:33:27] David: I was like, wow, like this could really make it possible for me to actually help everybody.

[00:33:32] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:33:32] David: With anything. I don’t have all the tools ’cause I’m starting really my first courses really? ’cause even though I had all this knowledge, it was all by talking and full Yeah. Verbal.

[00:33:43] Brad: Yeah.

[00:33:43] David: But it’s not the same as like doing it and it’s like, oh, you learn a tool.

[00:33:47] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:33:47] David: To handle your instability.

[00:33:49] David: Mm-hmm. Or your negative thoughts or your depression.

[00:33:53] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:33:53] David: And then you go apply the tool and you’re like, oh shit, I’m stable. What hap what? No way. You’re unstable too, [00:34:00] dude. Let’s see. Try this. Oh shit. You’re stable now. You know? It’s really incredible. It’s like magic.

[00:34:07] Brad: Yeah.

[00:34:07] David: So I was so excited with all these tools.

[00:34:09] David: I was like, how could I have been so idiotic? I had this at my fingertips my entire life and I went, had to burn down half of the country or the planet in the insanity. I should have just be doing this.

[00:34:22] Brad: Yeah.

[00:34:23] David: So I’m like, I wanna do that.

[00:34:24] Brad: Yeah.

[00:34:24] David: So I started doing courses like crazy.

[00:34:27] Brad: Yeah.

[00:34:27] David: Like to the point like, Hey, no one called me unless one of the factories burns down, or Walmart cancels an order.

[00:34:33] David: And I was just doing courses. ’cause I was like winning so much. All these tools. Yeah. Tools for the business.

[00:34:38] Aaron: I, by the way, this story I wanna add to this. Yeah. Yeah. Because I think of the people that I know

[00:34:44] Brad: Yeah.

[00:34:45] Aaron: The most intense, studious person on. So, and in 2007 Right. Uh, what’s called the basics, books and lectures came out.

[00:34:53] Aaron: Mm-hmm. There’s an event, there’s a whole thing, a bunch of these books and all the lectures came out. And, uh, could you, [00:35:00] could you say how, how you, how did that happen?

[00:35:03] David: So that’s around the time I’m getting in, into Scientology for real? Yeah,

[00:35:07] Brad: yeah, yeah.

[00:35:07] David: Like, I got this, like, this is it, like this works.

[00:35:10] Brad: Yeah.

[00:35:11] Brad: 2007.

[00:35:11] David: I need to get all these tools and give it to all my friends and to everyone I know and go from there.

[00:35:15] Brad: Yeah.

[00:35:16] David: Because this will make everything a lot better. And that event that Aaron mentioned is, is coming out where, where they released all this materials. It’s, it was 18 books and 215 lectures. Each lecture is about an hour long.

[00:35:30] David: El Ron Hubbard talk.

[00:35:31] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:35:31] David: About the body of knowledge on relationships or marriage or whatever. Yeah. Or your, or the man, the entire whatever.

[00:35:39] Brad: Yep. Yep.

[00:35:40] David: Right. So it’s the chronological order, everything, the way Ron wrote it and his actual recorded voice. Mm-hmm. Not whatever we had before that had some people had put together and had a lot of Ron and a lot of non Ron.

[00:35:53] Brad: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:35:55] David: So I literally had just reached the point that I was telling you of like bush [00:36:00] tailed, like excited fucking Mexican. Like, oh, we need to do all these courses. And that event happens.

[00:36:07] Brad: Yeah.

[00:36:07] David: I’m showing up at the event, first fucking Mexican in the fucking place. Ha, I’m listening to this and it’s making sense and it kind of answers a little bit of what you said of the parents and the kid and all that.

[00:36:18] David: Right. I’m like, well, if you don’t really have the tools and you have all these tools that you think are correct, but a lot of them cannot work. And in some cases, because they’re altered

[00:36:27] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:36:27] David: They’re not the way they’re supposed to be.

[00:36:29] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:36:30] David: So that for me is like, I get it. Like, yeah. No wonder I went psycho Looney.

[00:36:38] Brad: Yeah.

[00:36:40] David: But I need the source right now.

[00:36:41] Brad: Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

[00:36:42] David: So I ran out of the event in the middle of the event and I find somebody and I know, don’t know anybody ’cause I’m brand new.

[00:36:48] Brad: Yeah.

[00:36:48] David: And these events have thousands of people. Thousands.

[00:36:51] Brad: Yeah.

[00:36:52] David: And I see someone that seems like a staff member. It’s like, I need all of these materials right now.

[00:36:56] Brad: Yeah.

[00:36:57] David: Uh, here’s my credit card. Save a set for me. [00:37:00]

[00:37:00] Brad: Yeah.

[00:37:00] David: And run back in then part of the release of the event. Courses.

[00:37:06] Brad: Yeah.

[00:37:06] David: Courses for all of this. Oh my God. What? I run out again. Don’t find the person. Find someone else, another staff member. I’m like, I gave someone with a red shirt. They all had red shirts or whatever.

[00:37:19] David: Right. My credit card, my name’s David. They’re saving me a set of all the materials and all the lectures. I want all of it, but I also need all the courses. So get me a set too. Yeah. And I run back in. So then this comes out, and I did all of that in five weeks.

[00:37:35] Brad: What?

[00:37:36] Aaron: Like morning till night? Like morning till night.

[00:37:38] Aaron: Like all that. How is that even possible? Like full, full, full. Yeah,

[00:37:41] David: I would

[00:37:42] Brad: So you’d have to do seven hours a day. You

[00:37:45] David: have to,

[00:37:45] Brad: yeah. Sorry, go ahead.

[00:37:47] David: There was people in the building that weren’t in agreement because I would violate maybe potentially things that, you know, like I was there from 8:00 AM until sometimes three, 4:00 AM So I’m like, listen, if I’m not tired, I’m gonna keep going.

[00:37:59] Brad: Yeah. [00:38:00]

[00:38:00] David: And there’s this thing that you attain. Through Scientology, uh, auditing, processing, or studies, which is called externalization, where you can kind of like operate outside of your body and mm-hmm. I’m sorry if that sounds crazy, but, uh, and for yourself, that started happening so much. That’s

[00:38:16] Brad: what I say.

[00:38:16] Brad: If it sounds crazy, check it out for yourself.

[00:38:18] David: Yeah, good point.

[00:38:20] Brad: Yeah.

[00:38:21] David: Or don’t, but you’re missing out.

[00:38:23] Brad: Yeah. It’s pretty great.

[00:38:24] David: Uh, so that starts to happen. It’s like, and I’m in such a condition that the body’s just not tired.

[00:38:30] Brad: Yeah.

[00:38:30] David: I’ve been studying whether I’m reading a book or listening to a set of lectures since 8:00 AM and it’s now two or three in the morning and I’m in great shape, of course that’s outta my body.

[00:38:41] David: Like, oh my God, the street is all quiet. It’s like having the time of my life. I’d have one of my peoples bring me my food. So I’d come out, I’d have my meal prepped ready. I would eat it. Yeah. They would clean up and I’d go back in. Wow. So my meal breaks were nothing. 20 minutes.

[00:38:55] Brad: Yeah. ‘

[00:38:56] David: cause I had to get back.

[00:38:57] David: I couldn’t stop. It’s like, I need to get all of this. [00:39:00] This is like a jam. That’s how I did it in five weeks.

[00:39:05] Brad: There’s people who take not done months or years. Yeah. Not done to get through. Wow.

[00:39:13] David: Yeah. I mean, it’s a matter of just putting the time and I was fortunate enough, I guess, at that time to be able to just do that and be like, this is what I’m gonna do for five weeks.

[00:39:21] Brad: Yeah. That’s unreal, dude.

[00:39:22] David: Yeah, I know.

[00:39:23] Brad: Wow.

[00:39:24] David: It was one of the best things I’ve done in my life. Yeah. And I’ve done many things Yeah. That are very incredible. But that was definitely a, a benchmark.

[00:39:30] Brad: What happened next?

[00:39:32] David: Everything.

[00:39:33] Brad: Like what

[00:39:33] David: after that? Yeah. Um, after that I’m like, okay, I want more.

[00:39:39] Brad: Yeah,

[00:39:40] David: I want more.

[00:39:40] David: I just need more.

[00:39:42] Brad: Yeah. Actually I have a question about that. Yeah. So one, one thing that I see, I feel like really successful people do this, is they are willing to basically say no to everything in their life except for one thing for. Not actually [00:40:00] that long of a period of time, but like five weeks, you’re doing that every day.

[00:40:02] Brad: That, that is a long period of time to say no to everything else.

[00:40:06] David: Yeah.

[00:40:07] Brad: Morning to night. Did, did that carry positive effects? Just, just doing that, being able to do that, did that carry positive effects to the rest of your life?

[00:40:16] David: Absolutely. The one of the best investments I’ve done

[00:40:17] Brad: Yeah.

[00:40:18] David: And translated to non Scientology terms would be like Aaron teaches you how to make a billion dollars in six months.

[00:40:24] David: Mm-hmm. Are you not? But he tells you do it, but you need to work 120 hour weeks. Would you do this? 120 hour weeks? A hundred percent Of course. For six months. For a billion dollars.

[00:40:30] Brad: Yeah. Uh, yeah.

[00:40:31] David: Right.

[00:40:31] Brad: And no,

[00:40:32] David: and then you start the first few days with him.

[00:40:34] Brad: Yeah.

[00:40:34] David: And you’re making a dollar a million a day. So you’re like, this is for reals.

[00:40:38] Brad: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:40:40] David: Would you stop?

[00:40:41] Aaron: Can we, can we do that? I haven’t done yet. Haven’t done

[00:40:44] David: that. That’s extra price.

[00:40:46] Aaron: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:40:46] Brad: Okay, fine.

[00:40:46] David: But, uh, but you see the, the comparison, like mm-hmm. You start with them, you’re making a million a day.

[00:40:53] Brad: What

[00:40:54] David: would I stop? You never made a million profit a day, so.

[00:40:56] David: Exactly why stop, you said 1,000,000,006, let’s [00:41:00] go.

[00:41:00] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:41:01] David: And it’s the same thing. ’cause I was learning all these things. They’re practical tools. I’m applying them every day. And in those five weeks I have crazy life stories that have happened in my life with just getting that data. And I’m barely starting to apply it.

[00:41:14] David: ’cause I’m still trying to figure it all out. So much stuff.

[00:41:16] Brad: Yeah.

[00:41:17] David: But the few things that I’m starting to apply, the change is just so massive. It’s like, it’s that story. It’s like now you’re at 3 million a day. You’re like, dude, I need to wake up earlier.

[00:41:27] Brad: Yeah. ‘

[00:41:27] David: cause that can take it to 10 million in a day.

[00:41:29] Brad: Hours isn’t enough.

[00:41:30] David: Yes. Yeah. And that’s kind what happened for me.

[00:41:33] Brad: Yeah.

[00:41:33] David: You know, and if I could, today, I told this to someone literally yesterday or the day before, I would love nothing more to be able to go to the church.

[00:41:42] Brad: Yeah.

[00:41:42] David: Spend a couple months, do a few courses that I’ve wanted to do that I’m, I’m working on.

[00:41:46] David: But it takes me a while ’cause I, I only go two hours a day.

[00:41:48] Brad: Yeah.

[00:41:49] David: But if I could go full time, I get them done in four or five weeks. And I think that would be the biggest life changing thing. But I can’t, I, we have staff on the other side of this wall. We have family, [00:42:00] we have all these things and, and they’re all amazing.

[00:42:02] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:42:02] David: You know, but if I was in that, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

[00:42:07] Aaron: Yeah. What, what would be, and by the way, I just wanna say this is extremely unusual. Most people Yeah. Like, I actually don’t know of a single other Scientologist on the face of the earth that did it this way. Yeah. Like, like, uh,

[00:42:18] David: well,

[00:42:19] Aaron: show me how to up, how to make a

[00:42:21] David: billion

[00:42:21] Aaron: dollars

[00:42:21] David: in in six months.

[00:42:22] David: I’m like, I’m gonna do

[00:42:23] Aaron: it. So that was laid out. So just so you all know, like that was a extreme exceptional case. But I also think, should I have done that too? You know what I mean? Like, it would’ve been great, but I, I didn’t at that time when I had, I should have, you know, no responsibilities. You know what, what I mean, like, whatever.

[00:42:39] Aaron: When that event came, I was, uh, 17, 18, whatever, and I, I saw that I was there. I saw that event that much when I started too. Wow. At that same moment. That’s really when I got started. I knew about it a few years before, but that, at that moment is when I started.

[00:42:50] David: Wow.

[00:42:50] Aaron: And, uh, it was much slower. A little, I probably, I, you know, I didn’t finish dynetics probably for another two years.

[00:42:57] Aaron: Right. Like, that was the first book and ’cause then, anyway, big [00:43:00] different story. But I’m just saying like,

[00:43:01] Brad: I get it.

[00:43:02] Aaron: That would’ve been amazing. I just didn’t do it. Most people don’t, most people life gets in the way. But

[00:43:07] Brad: yeah,

[00:43:07] Aaron: David

[00:43:07] Brad: did the, they piece it together

[00:43:09] Aaron: a different route than most.

[00:43:10] Brad: It’s amazing though.

[00:43:12] Brad: So for, for people who, um, you know, like, just for for context, your, your, and I’m, I’m in the same situation. Our reduced schedule is like two. I probably spend about three hours a day, like at our church.

[00:43:25] David: That’s beautiful.

[00:43:26] Brad: I see you there. Yeah. Yeah. Same for you. Same for you. Like we’re all That’s the reduced, that’s the minimum schedule.

[00:43:32] Brad: We’re like, yeah, we’re just on the minimum schedule. Yeah. Just piece bare bones together. Bare, bare bones. But for

[00:43:37] Aaron: chores a day for most religions is like, dude, you’re like hardcore. That’s what I was

[00:43:41] Brad: gonna say. Yeah. Can you help like, put that in context for somebody who maybe. Maybe goes to church like once a week, which is totally cool.

[00:43:47] Brad: Spends two, three hours a week at church. ’cause actually growing up, that’s what I did. I grew up in as a a Lutheran, which is a denomination of the Christian Church. And we go on Sunday and we’d have our cool thing and we hang out with friends and then we’d piece out.

[00:43:58] Aaron: Yeah.

[00:43:59] Brad: Which was really [00:44:00] nice. But like you were one of

[00:44:01] the

[00:44:01] Aaron: most about, I mean, you were at that level.

[00:44:03] Aaron: You’re like in the top of the

[00:44:05] David: congregation.

[00:44:06] Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. You’re

[00:44:07] Brad: you’re

[00:44:07] Aaron: a

[00:44:07] Brad: regular actually. Yeah, you’re right. Actually I would, I would do another, well, I would do another two hours a week going to our, I was the youth representative on our like, wow, whatever council thing. I did it to get into a good college, to be honest.

[00:44:19] Brad: But I did want to help. I did actually, that’s why I learned how insane groups are for the first time.

[00:44:23] David: Wow.

[00:44:24] Brad: Oh my god, dude. Love the people who were comprised of, but they could not get anything done when they were together. It was crazy. But anyways, could you put that in context for like how, like if, if somebody’s like, man, I go to church for two hours once a week, what would you, what would you say to that person to try to like bridge the reality

[00:44:42] Aaron: which church?

[00:44:44] Aaron: What you talking about?

[00:44:45] Brad: Like, like you’re Christian, like someone else, like they go everywhere. Oh,

[00:44:47] Aaron: just, oh, I see, I see, I see. No, no, not a

[00:44:49] Brad: psychologist.

[00:44:49] Aaron: Okay, okay. I got it.

[00:44:50] Brad: No, I mean like a, like a, like a Christian

[00:44:52] David: person. Well, I think the easiest way would be to go back to the billion dollar example.

[00:44:56] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:44:57] David: Right?[00:45:00]

[00:45:02] David: Like

[00:45:03] Aaron: you have answers.

[00:45:04] David: Yeah. Like I’m, I’m being there two, three hours a day. Mm-hmm. I’m getting tools that I’m using that same day and from there on out every day.

[00:45:12] Brad: Yeah.

[00:45:12] David: For that, call it the billion dollar semester.

[00:45:16] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:45:17] David: You know, but yes, now we have more parts of our lives and you know, more areas and a wife and kids and, and I love spending all of it.

[00:45:24] David: And you know, part of enjoying it is being responsible for all of them and create with all of them and enjoy all that. Create more and more, and not just like, okay, I’m not gonna be see the friends no more or the kids

[00:45:37] Aaron: mm-hmm.

[00:45:37] David: Because that’s, it doesn’t, it doesn’t work. Yeah. You need to make sure all areas of the life.

[00:45:41] David: Are moving up at the same time. So Yeah.

[00:45:43] Aaron: And that’s something you’ve even study about. That’s the core. That’s,

[00:45:45] David: and that’s kind of like, why only two, two and a half or three hours a week.

[00:45:50] Brad: Yeah.

[00:45:51] David: But how to bridge the gap of like, why I do it and maybe other people in, in other religions don’t, is that, is like, I’m just getting practical tools that I’m using every day.

[00:45:59] David: I come to the [00:46:00] office right after and I’m blown outta my mind Yeah. With something new. And I meet with my staff and we put it in place and boom, something crazy happens and Yeah. You know, it translates to enormous amounts of money.

[00:46:11] Brad: Yeah. Mm.

[00:46:13] David: So,

[00:46:14] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:46:15] David: That’s, then it becomes easy.

[00:46:17] Brad: We need to clip,

[00:46:18] David: you know, like,

[00:46:18] Brad: we need to clip that.

[00:46:19] Brad: It’s

[00:46:19] Aaron: all good. It’s all good.

[00:46:20] Brad: That’s like the, that’s like the, the best. Like that. For me, that’s like a, a beautifully real explanation of Scientology from that matches with my viewpoint of like,

[00:46:30] David: that’s

[00:46:31] Brad: awesome. I go and I learn something. I’ve always wanted to handle the money thing, right. I go and learn something, go and apply it, and then boom, all of a sudden people are more chill.

[00:46:38] Brad: We get more stuff done, and then all of a sudden there’s more money

[00:46:40] David: and with less work, probably.

[00:46:42] Brad: Yeah. Well, yeah.

[00:46:44] David: Meaning more, less

[00:46:45] Brad: effort on

[00:46:45] David: your part

[00:46:46] Brad: Effort. Yeah. And the work becomes easier.

[00:46:48] David: Correct.

[00:46:49] Brad: Joy, you’re, when you’re not like

[00:46:50] David: Correct. There’s no effort.

[00:46:52] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:46:53] David: So I think that’s, that’s how we do it, you know, like we become more able

[00:46:58] Brad: Yeah.

[00:46:58] David: You know, and, [00:47:00] and with that life gets better. So I’m like, I want more.

[00:47:03] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:47:04] David: And I wanna make it better tomorrow. And that’s how we bridge the gap. And even if I compared it, I grew up Catholic.

[00:47:10] Brad: Yeah.

[00:47:10] David: I’d go to church not as often as you did, but sometimes not once a week. No,

[00:47:15] Brad: really. Oh

[00:47:16] David: wow. And when I was there, I would fight with whoever friends we.

[00:47:21] David: So sometimes I was moved, like, escorted out by the priest so that mask could take place. That was so Wow.

[00:47:29] Aaron: So then

[00:47:29] David: how

[00:47:29] Aaron: is it, how is it

[00:47:30] David: to, to, to really fully answer the question is Yeah. It really, I think it boils down to purpose.

[00:47:34] Brad: Yeah.

[00:47:35] David: You know, like, okay, you, you’re going to purpose, to, to church with a purpose.

[00:47:39] David: Mm-hmm. Whatever religion that is. Well, what is that purpose? Right? And that’s why you go.

[00:47:44] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:47:45] David: And it can be all kinds of value of the purpose. It’s, that’s self.

[00:47:50] Brad: When you were, when you were young and you go to,

[00:47:52] David: I had no purpose.

[00:47:53] Brad: Catholic mass,

[00:47:54] David: no

[00:47:54] Brad: purpose.

[00:47:54] David: No, I don’t wanna be in church. I wanna be in at home playing with my friends.

[00:47:58] David: And

[00:47:58] Brad: you achieved

[00:47:58] David: it out. And here we are all [00:48:00] standing at mass.

[00:48:00] Brad: Yeah.

[00:48:01] David: Instead of home. You know, my purpose is not there.

[00:48:03] Brad: But you would achieve getting out.

[00:48:05] David: Yeah. But I’d have to wait. You probably get

[00:48:07] Brad: kicked out. Oh, got it.

[00:48:08] David: For everyone to get out so I can go home.

[00:48:11] Brad: Yeah.

[00:48:11] David: And now there’s people upset.

[00:48:13] Brad: Dude, I always went to church with, I always had a, a secret purpose.

[00:48:17] Brad: My purpose was like, man, I maybe today. I’m gonna hear something that’s really gonna make everything click for me. I was always going church, looking for that. That’s, I swear to God,

[00:48:26] David: incredible purpose.

[00:48:26] Brad: Yeah. I would never had a back off on going to church. Wow. I was always like, okay, today this preacher would always through a sermon and I’m like, okay, here it is.

[00:48:36] Brad: Today’s the day he’s gonna tell me what it is. And I was always like, you know, I enjoyed the, the group aspect of it, like being with people who you enjoy. It’s like very uptone, very uplifting. Which is still great. I like, from time to time, my wife and I will still go to like a Christian, like Easter or Christmas like, like church service.

[00:48:55] Brad: ’cause it’s just so uplifting.

[00:48:57] David: It’s beautiful.

[00:48:57] Brad: Yeah. It’s beautiful. Uh, but I would [00:49:00] literally go being like, okay, maybe today he’s gonna tell me the thing that’s gonna make everything make sense.

[00:49:05] David: See, you were smarter than me back then.

[00:49:09] Brad: Well,

[00:49:10] David: but I think that’s part of the answer to that question is why we do things.

[00:49:14] Brad: Yeah.

[00:49:14] David: Right. When you become a Scientologist and you’ve been doing it for a while mm-hmm. Like we all three have, and you’ve used enough of it and you have that certainty that you want more and you know how it works and you’re skilled enough in the application of it where things start to go much better at work, much simpler.

[00:49:34] David: You know, there’s no effort, there’s more money. So the purpose gets bigger. So if, if the, someone in some other religion doesn’t have that purpose for their church, and that’s probably why I think personally, this is my own viewpoint. Yeah. That why we find people from so many religions.

[00:49:53] Brad: Mm.

[00:49:53] David: Some of them practice the religion.

[00:49:54] David: Some of them don’t anymore, but they’re all in Scientology.

[00:49:58] Brad: Yeah.

[00:49:58] David: You know, and a lot of my friends are Jews. [00:50:00]

[00:50:01] Brad: Yeah, same. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:50:01] David: And you’ll find a lot of Jews in Scientology and they go to Temple and I go to temple with them and I, I just love religion ’cause it’s so, it’s so, I don’t know. It’s like homey

[00:50:09] Brad: dude.

[00:50:10] Brad: I love Jewish people

[00:50:10] David: and I don’t Yeah. Speak Hebrew, but I go listen to the sermons. It’s kind of cool.

[00:50:16] Brad: Yeah.

[00:50:17] David: There’s something to it. There’s spirituality in there.

[00:50:20] Brad: You know what, I love that Jewish people do Shabbat dinner.

[00:50:22] David: Yeah. I grew up with Shabbat’s dinner. Oh. Did almost every Friday. Yes.

[00:50:25] Brad: Yeah, dude.

[00:50:27] David: But you see, that’s, it’s, that’s different.

[00:50:30] David: You know, like we go to Temple, we have this activity, you know, or it’s the 15, uh, the, the bar mitzvah or the bar mitzvah of the kids.

[00:50:38] Brad: Yeah.

[00:50:39] David: So there’s a ceremony and you do that and you kind of have to, and that’s the way you do it. And it’s beautiful. And, you know, but I don’t go, I go to church because I’m gonna get the next tool to make the next million next week.

[00:50:51] David: Mm-hmm. You know, or I go to church because I want to become more able to give my kid a better, better future or to become better at building the relationship with my wife. Or [00:51:00] if you, either of you or anyone else would ever needed help, I’d become more able to better help you.

[00:51:05] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:05] David: With whatever you need, you know?

[00:51:08] David: And that’s why I go to church.

[00:51:09] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:09] David: And then it’s incredibly rewarding. It’s, it’s not boring. It’s incredibly interesting. ’cause you’re kind of like, you as a little kid with that purpose of like, today I’m gonna get the keys of the kingdom.

[00:51:19] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:51:20] David: And I’m gonna get the secret.

[00:51:21] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:22] David: That’s literally what happens.

[00:51:24] David: And for me, when I go to course,

[00:51:26] Brad: same

[00:51:27] David: at the org

[00:51:27] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:51:28] David: In Scientology, it’s like, and it hits you sometimes and you’re like, holy, where did that come from? Yeah. What the fuck? And that has ripples in so many areas of your life. Mm-hmm. But it’s immediate.

[00:51:38] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:39] David: And then the course has, you then apply that in your life.

[00:51:41] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:42] David: And then you put it into play and, and then you see it and it’s like, oh shit, this actually worked.

[00:51:46] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:51:46] David: What the fuck? Mm-hmm. I would’ve never thought I could have never guessed.

[00:51:49] Brad: Yeah.

[00:51:50] Aaron: Some, sometimes I find, I, I, I’ll tell you, there’s, I, I won’t, I’m gonna see if I can pull it up and I’m gonna share it, but [00:52:00] sometimes I feel like when you’re learning the most is when the idea is so far from what you believe right now.

[00:52:05] Aaron: Mm. Like sometimes I’ll realign the first time and I go like, what? Like this, this can’t be trying, let me reread it again. Let me look, let me see if I understand each word. I’m like, wait, wait, wait. This is like almost the exact opposite of the idea I had like a minute ago.

[00:52:25] Aaron: Sometimes I find when I, when I get to that, I go, oh, wow. And then I, and then I do examples and I check and I think, and I go, I’ve had this wrong idea for 35 years. Right? And I, and I think that some of those moments, it’s like, that’s where you get the biggest, i, I guess, change, right? Because if you don’t go to place to just hear what you already know, right?

[00:52:48] Aaron: Like if you, like, they call it the banalities, right? Just things that people just say, like, just things that everyone knows, right? But if that’s all you’re hearing, you’re actually not [00:53:00] learning anything, right?

[00:53:00] Brad: Yeah.

[00:53:01] Aaron: So sometimes with the challenge yourselves, and I feel like that does occur when you have enough breadth of reading, like enough, enough things that you look at and study and like.

[00:53:11] Aaron: Huh, this, this doesn’t really make, make a lot of sense right now, but then wait. And then you kind of see, oh, and then that’s why this other thing was a problem because you actually didn’t know what you were talking about.

[00:53:21] Brad: Yeah.

[00:53:22] Aaron: Anyway.

[00:53:22] Brad: Yeah.

[00:53:23] David: It’s incredible.

[00:53:23] Brad: Totally. It’s

[00:53:24] David: so true.

[00:53:24] Brad: Totally agree. IJI just finished a course on how to, uh, ba basically it’s a course on how to think, like how to look at the world and like evaluate information in, in the world.

[00:53:36] Brad: And, uh, it was, you know, it’s funny, when I started the course I was very much like, like what? Because it, it takes like simple concepts, but puts some in a way where I’d never looked at it that way before.

[00:53:49] David: Mm-hmm.

[00:53:50] Brad: And, uh, the, the thing that I was thinking of is, I, I was probably on this course, like on and off of it for several months.

[00:53:58] Brad: And then about three weeks ago [00:54:00] I got on it and actually just started ’cause I was doing that. And then I would go and do other things and dah, dah, dah. I was there within the church, within the church, but I was kind of like doing multiple things at once. And then I finished the other thing I was working on and I got just on that course and literally I was maybe halfway through it.

[00:54:13] Brad: It had taken me literally 10 months to get halfway through it. And then I, the rest of the course in eight days, just going every day. Oh my God. So I’m, I’m thinking about it more on your five week thing. And I’m like, yeah, okay. I see how that would work

[00:54:25] David: and that, oh no, that’s a complete stable data for me.

[00:54:27] David: Yeah. Like the more time you put in, in one shot mm-hmm. The more progress you make.

[00:54:31] Brad: Yeah.

[00:54:31] David: So I,

[00:54:32] Brad: and it’s, but it, it’s a, I

[00:54:33] David: agree with that.

[00:54:34] Brad: It’s, it’s not, it’s not such a physical universe thing. It’s a spiritual thing.

[00:54:38] David: Yeah.

[00:54:38] Brad: You literally just get like accelerate anyways. It’s amazing.

[00:54:43] David: Yeah, it is amazing.

[00:54:44] Brad: Yeah,

[00:54:44] David: it is amazing.

[00:54:45] David: Like

[00:54:45] Brad: a second hour if you can’t tell, we love this stuff.

[00:54:48] David: Oh yeah.

[00:54:48] Brad: I bleep myself. Almost

[00:54:49] David: said. Perfect. Yeah, that’s right. It’s good stuff.

[00:54:53] Brad: Yeah, it

[00:54:53] David: just works.

[00:54:54] Brad: Yeah, it really does. Okay. I have a question. Can I ask him a question? Please? Okay. In your own words, [00:55:00] Mr. David La Bore, what is Scientology?

[00:55:05] David: Practical tools for life?

[00:55:06] David: I’d say,

[00:55:08] Brad: hmm.

[00:55:09] David: There’s a deeper meaning that has to do with spirituality and it can get very deep, and it might be the most powerful of it all. But I think the simplest way for me to say it’s just practical tools for life. Because you learn something and you can practically apply it in your life, no matter who you are, no matter your faith, no matter your religion.

[00:55:28] David: I have all friends from all religions that come to the church

[00:55:30] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:55:31] David: That practice their religions.

[00:55:32] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:55:33] David: And they’re experiencing the same, we are all three. You know, and that’s why they, we all keep going.

[00:55:38] Brad: Yeah.

[00:55:39] David: And that’s why this thing is the fastest growing religion on the planet ever. Or they’re maybe back the, the beginnings of, I don’t know, I don’t remember that far back, but at least now, you know.

[00:55:53] David: You know? Yeah. We’re opening major organizations in every major city of the planet’s, like Yeah. ’cause it works. [00:56:00]

[00:56:00] Brad: Yep. Yeah.

[00:56:01] David: So I think it’s, what I find in it is practical tools for life, you know? And

[00:56:05] Brad: yeah,

[00:56:05] David: with that it’s easier. We all were born, but no one gives a manual and how to live life or how to handle your parents, or how to build a friendship or how to be evaluate people so they don’t backs stab you.

[00:56:17] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:56:18] David: And how do you know when they’re gonna backs stab you or not? Can you know that in advance?

[00:56:22] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[00:56:23] David: If I’d known that when I was a kid, I would’ve saved a lot of trouble, you know?

[00:56:28] Brad: Yeah.

[00:56:28] David: Who’s gonna betray me?

[00:56:29] Brad: I wish you would’ve taught me up front,

[00:56:31] David: right?

[00:56:31] Brad: Yeah.

[00:56:32] David: Yeah.

[00:56:32] Brad: But they actually are telling you up front if you know what to look

[00:56:34] David: for, if you Exactly.

[00:56:35] David: But you don’t, and then you get

[00:56:36] Brad: mm-hmm.

[00:56:38] David: Anyway, so that’s what I, I, I think is the simplest way for me to explain.

[00:56:42] Brad: Amazing. Yeah. Beautiful.

[00:56:44] Aaron: Yeah. And so when you said, um, thank you for that, by the way.

[00:56:47] David: Sure.

[00:56:49] Aaron: When you said that, uh, so you grew up Catholic. Were your parents? Catholic. Catholic and Scientologists?

[00:56:55] Aaron: Kind of how? Yeah. Not very,

[00:56:57] David: um, what’s the word? [00:57:00] Devout. Yeah. Not very devout. They were more Scientologists by the time I came around. Uh, but everyone around me was either Catholic or Jews. The closest family friends were Jews and my Jews, the real Jews. So we’re going to temple all the fucking time. We’re having Shabbat every Friday.

[00:57:17] Brad: Yeah.

[00:57:17] David: And it’s amazing. But go ahead. What was your question?

[00:57:20] Aaron: No, no, just like, so who in the family was Catholic? Like how, how was that? Like

[00:57:27] David: my parents, but you know, my more, my grandparents in terms of devout or, but they were never really, like, they were not even remotely as devout. Not my grandparents, not my parents as any of my Jewish friends that I still have to this day that we grew up together.

[00:57:45] David: Mm-hmm. Where I’ve gone to Temple. A hundred times for per, for each church day, you know, like,

[00:57:51] Brad: yeah,

[00:57:51] David: I’ve gone to Temple so much.

[00:57:53] Brad: Circling back to the, the parent conversation. Yeah. Because you just brought up your parents and, and grandparents. What’s your [00:58:00] viewpoint on your daughter and how, basically how you think, ’cause obviously being a parent, I’ve had plans on like, Hey, I’m gonna do blah, and then I get into it and I’m like, oh, that was a stupid plan.

[00:58:13] Brad: That’s how I’m actually not gonna do that. What do you think, how do you think you’re gonna handle Scientology in relation to your daughter and just letting her have her own cause point and, and, and all that? Well,

[00:58:25] David: I think you just answered the question, you know, like

[00:58:28] Brad: answering my own question.

[00:58:29] David: Yeah. I mean she is, cause of course she’ll have the tools and knowledge that she’ll have as she grows up, right?

[00:58:35] David: So I’m not gonna let her a two year, a 5-year-old make a decision on whether we buy a company or not. ’cause she might not have the right tools to make that decision. Yeah. And same would apply to her life at that time. But she’s eventually the driver of that life, and I will support her to drive it the best she can, the way she wants to drive it.

[00:58:53] David: Whether she wants to be a Muslim or a Jew, or a Christian or atheist, or a full fledged Scientologist. Well, it’s kind of like up to [00:59:00] her, you know, the tools are here for anyone that wants them. She’ll probably do some courses when she wants to do the courses, and if she feels it works for her rock and roll, you know?

[00:59:08] Brad: Yeah.

[00:59:09] David: But it’s not my duty to be like, oh, you have to study what I study. Fuck the, no, what the fuck is that?

[00:59:15] Brad: Yeah, yeah.

[00:59:17] David: You know, she’ll do what she’ll want to do.

[00:59:19] Brad: Yeah.

[00:59:19] David: And if she finds out she loves it and wants to do it, do it. Mm-hmm. You don’t like it. Don’t do it.

[00:59:23] Brad: Yeah. I agree. I, I think I mentioned this in our, when you interviewed me in one of our first episodes, the, I actually, so when I walked into Tampa org to, to do the first course, actually I just walked in for a tour.

[00:59:37] Brad: I was like, Hey, can I see what you guys do? I just wanted to see it. And then I got signed up for a course, which is fantastic. But on my second course, which is probably. You know, a week and a half the, I did the little co the little four day part-time courses. You, you’re done in six, eight hours, right? Yeah.

[00:59:52] Brad: And I’m on my second one. It’s, I’ve probably been in the org for seven days total. And, [01:00:00] uh, I’m reading and I, and I just start this course and I come across the line that goes something to the effect of like, uh, the, like Scientology, like in basically in Scientology. Uh, we’re not gonna tell you

[01:00:13] David: what’s true, what’s true for you is true

[01:00:14] Brad: for you.

[01:00:15] Brad: What’s true is what’s true by your observation alone. Yeah, yeah. And what’s true for you. That’s right. Yeah. And when I saw that, I actually became a Scientologist very fast. I became a Scientologist right there. ’cause I was like, okay, what it did is it didn’t, you know, people say like, you got converted. I didn’t get converted.

[01:00:31] Brad: It was actually okay. At that point, it was then clearly safe for me to actually look at this thing. Right?

[01:00:38] David: Yeah.

[01:00:38] Brad: Because it’s not like, Hey, we’re gonna tell you. It’s like, Hey there, this is actually a safe. For you to look at what’s true for you by, based on what you’ve actually observed and

[01:00:50] David: Yeah.

[01:00:51] Brad: You know, and that whole course is on personal integrity and values, and it’s just like, is is pretty amazing.

[01:00:56] Brad: In fact, I was so impacted by that [01:01:00] that I don’t know if I’ve ever told you, I’ve told Aaron, but I don’t think I’ve told you this. I literally, that’s how I handled my wife. ’cause when I walked in, my wife was like, what the hell are you doing? She was raised very devout. Southern Baptist.

[01:01:11] David: Yeah.

[01:01:12] Brad: Like very, very devout.

[01:01:13] Brad: Her mother’s still very devout, which is totally cool. Um, but she literally was like, this isn’t gonna flow. She literally was like, eh, no. Like about Scientology at first.

[01:01:23] David: Wow.

[01:01:24] Brad: Yeah. And so I was like, okay, cool. And I literally saw that line and I was like, oh, I’m showing her this shit because she is very, she’s sorry, we’re gonna have to bleep it.

[01:01:33] Brad: Kuby. Uh, but she’s very self-determined. And so I was like, oh, if I show her this. It. Then she’s gonna have a similar, because I’m also very self-determined. I’m like, don’t tell me what to do. Like I will figure out what to do. You know? Yeah.

[01:01:46] David: I rather run into the wall myself.

[01:01:48] Brad: I, yeah.

[01:01:49] David: But then I know that there was

[01:01:50] Brad: a wall I like running into walls.

[01:01:52] Brad: Okay,

[01:01:52] David: yeah. Yeah.

[01:01:52] Brad: I like the pain. Yeah. And so I literally brought that home and I showed her that out of the pack, and I was like, Hey, look at this. [01:02:00] And she was like, Hmm. I, I kid you not, she looks at it, walks around the kitchen for like five minutes doing something else, comes back and says, Hey, do you think I could get a tour of, of that psychology?

[01:02:10] Brad: I dead serious that the exact fi like five minutes later.

[01:02:15] David: That’s amazing.

[01:02:16] Brad: Yeah. But I, I don’t know how we got onto that, but that was, I mean, what’s that How end, at

[01:02:22] Aaron: the end of the day? That’s the, that’s yeah, that’s one big

[01:02:24] David: difference. We got into that because of the kids, right. And

[01:02:26] Brad: Oh yeah,

[01:02:27] David: there you go. And I think own, it’s probably part of it all.

[01:02:30] David: It’s like, what’s true for you, it’s true for you And

[01:02:31] Brad: mm-hmm.

[01:02:31] David: That Scientology’s view and the founder’s view and, and is. There, there’s nothing more true than that.

[01:02:36] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:02:37] David: Me telling you whatever until you go do it, and you’re like, you were right. When you add two plus two, it is four.

[01:02:43] Brad: Yeah.

[01:02:43] David: I did it with pencils.

[01:02:44] David: Yeah. I got four.

[01:02:45] Brad: Yeah.

[01:02:46] David: You know, and then, you know, it’s true.

[01:02:48] Brad: Yeah.

[01:02:48] David: And that’s what we find in Scientology. That’s what I, you know, you find how to add two plus two and then you count the pen, it’s like, oh, there’s four. Okay.

[01:02:55] Brad: Yeah. Totally.

[01:02:58] David: Yeah.

[01:02:59] Brad: Two plus [01:03:00] two is four.

[01:03:01] David: Yeah.

[01:03:02] Aaron: Okay. Excellent. Good. Um, what, what is, like, if you, if you summed up all the knowledge, everything you’ve learned in your life, and you wanna give someone like a two minute message,

[01:03:16] Brad: he’s, he’s being brutal today.

[01:03:18] Brad: These questions are hard.

[01:03:18] Aaron: Joses up. It’s so hard. She’s

[01:03:20] David: never PG

[01:03:20] Aaron: 13. It’s so hard. He’s never PG 13. Brad, if you can sum up, just like, imagine like a book of, a book of like a sentence of life, like a, why don’t

[01:03:30] Brad: we just ask him what’s the meaning of life?

[01:03:31] Aaron: Okay. You could do that too. But like parting words, right?

[01:03:36] Aaron: Like from your life, what you’ve learned that you want to share. Like if you wrote a book, what’s like that opening paragraph? What do you want to impart to people? Anyone listening like, yeah, but this is your, your time to shine. Like, what do you wanna say?

[01:03:48] Brad: He pulls out what the, my book says.

[01:03:51] David: Okay. Um, I guess the biggest take in that line would be for [01:04:00] me is that you can do whatever you wanna do, meaning you could accomplish whatever you set yourself to accomplish, provided you have the right tools to accomplish that.

[01:04:09] David: Right. If he did teach you how to make a billion in six months and it, it is the right way, you will make the billion in six months.

[01:04:14] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:04:15] David: Right? So life is a bit, sometimes more complex than just one single goal or one single area. So you, you might, I’ve had to get at least from Scientology tools in various different areas of my life.

[01:04:27] David: So I can take all of that together upwards. ’cause I’ve noticed when I’m in my earlier days that, oh, let me push this area and it will only go so high if you’re like disregarding these other areas. And you, that’s kind of like you’re capped or maxed out. But then I’m like, when I discovered like, oh wow, I need to be responsible for all these other areas and let’s apply these tools there, and that starts to go, then there is no cap.

[01:04:52] David: So I guess the biggest thing that I’ve taken from my 46 years so far on this earth and all of my Scientology studies [01:05:00] would be that

[01:05:03] David: I am able to do whatever I desire I want to do. And I don’t have any needs or desires or hesitations to stop myself or, yeah, justify not doing that. You know? And I don’t know, I think that’s. Everyone, everyone out there is able to achieve whatever they want. It’s just sometimes we block ourselves.

[01:05:28] Brad: Yeah.

[01:05:29] David: You know, especially in the mind and ideas and things. That’s, most of ’em, we don’t even know they’re there.

[01:05:34] Brad: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

[01:05:36] David: But when you find the number, you get rid of them, it’s like it is gone. So it, it’s, it becomes easier and easier.

[01:05:43] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:05:44] David: And as you start, do, as I started doing better and accomplishing things of magnitude, whether that was helping someone, like for real.

[01:05:52] David: ’cause at some point they liquidated all my assets 2009 and I went and tried to save the world for like 10 years, [01:06:00] no income. 150, like 120 hour weeks, like full, full time. But with all these tools really helping people or organizations or groups real help

[01:06:13] Brad: mm-hmm.

[01:06:13] David: Where the problem was fully resolved.

[01:06:15] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:06:16] David: You know, it’s not like, Hey, I’m hungry, gimme some money. Okay. You give him some money, he eats. But he’s gonna be starving tomorrow again. Yeah. And if you’re not there to give him some money again, he’s gonna be hungry all day.

[01:06:24] Brad: Yeah. Yeah.

[01:06:27] David: So when fixing these things, and for me, discovering what I could accomplish as an individual, the amount of like freedom that gave me and mm-hmm.

[01:06:35] David: And spiritual gain, so to speak, you know, rediscovering my own competence became one of the most rewarding things for me. You know, like I can actually help you do whatever you’re trying to do and it’s done and you are blown out and now your life is different. And we have seen that. Give me more. ’cause it’s also kind of cool on [01:07:00] business.

[01:07:00] David: You do something, it goes, well, you made 3 million bucks, but that’s kind of cool.

[01:07:04] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:07:04] David: You know, we all need money, and the more we have, the more comfortable it gets.

[01:07:07] Brad: Mm-hmm.

[01:07:08] David: But when you really get to, you know, someone else and their life, or their situation, or their condition or a group. And just altogether, let’s accomplish that.

[01:07:19] David: And that is done. That self of satisfaction of self, which I don’t share with anybody, or I don’t boast about or mm-hmm. I won’t even promote it, but it gives me immortality.

[01:07:31] Brad: Hmm.

[01:07:32] David: And that’s what I’ve discovered of the most valuable thing I’ve gotten out of Scientology. I don’t know that I answered your question, but I definitely navigated around.

[01:07:41] David: That was a

[01:07:41] Brad: beautiful ending. Wow. Immortality.

[01:07:45] David: Yeah.

[01:07:46] Brad: Guys, damn. There we are.
